UHEA welcomes and serves home educators from all perspectives.  For over 30 years, UHEA has held an annual Convention and Curriculum Fair for adults and teens.  The Convention and Curriculum Fair runs a half day on Friday and all day on Saturday. Registration includes keynote speakers for adults and teens, panels, workshops and many home education related vendor booths and exhibits.  Babes in arms are always welcome.  We do not provide childcare services.

The 2015 Convention and Curriculum Fair of the Utah Home Education Association will be held at the Utah Valley Convention Center (220 W. Center Street, Provo, Utah) on Friday and Saturday, May 29-30, 2015.  A free showing of the movie Class Dismissed will be shown Friday May 29th at 7:00 pm.

Check out the Utah Valley Information website, it is filled with ideas for things to do and places to go while you are in Provo for the convention.

Adult Keynote Speaker

steveheadshotlowWe are pleased to announce Steve Demme of Demme Learning (Math-U-See, Spelling You See, and Building Faith Families) as our keynote speaker.  Steve and his wife Sandra have been married since 1979.  They have been blessed with four sons, three lovely daughters-in-law, and three grandchildren.  Their fourth son John, has Down Syndrome and lives with them in PA.  Steve addresses a variety of topics at homeschool and men's conferences to encourage parents as they seek to build families of faith.  He has spent years working with youth as a teacher in schools (public and Christian); as a pastor and youth leader in churches; and as a counselor and camp director at summer camps.  Steve says, "In hindsight, I am absolutely convinced that the single most significant influence in a child's life is that of his parents."

A former math teacher who has taught at all levels of math in public, private and Christian schools, Steve is the author of Math-U-See and the founder of Building Faith Families.  He has served in full or part time pastoral ministry for many years after graduating from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and has served on the board of Joni and Friends, Eastern PA.

Teen Keynote Speaker

Greg Denning 5We are pleased to announce Greg Denning, teacher and mentor for Williamsburg Academy as our teen keynote speaker.  Out on his own by the age of 16, Greg wenth through some difficult times as a young adult -- including being homeless, afflicted with hunger and suffering from loneliness and depression.  One cold Christmas Eve, as he sat watching his breath hang in the air, all alone, with nothing to eat, he made a commitment to himself -- he would build a happy life, filled with love, and lived on purpose.

Through grit and determination, he struggled to work and graduate from high school and college.  An autodidact, he studied voraciously outside of school, searching for the answers to why some are happy while others are not, or even worse -- why most continually live in the dim twilight of 'quiet desperation'.

As he discovered the secrets to success and happiness, he began to apply the principles to his life. Today he lives a 'ridiculously awesome' life -- married (and in love) with an amazing women, together they have six children, and so far they have traveled to 12 countries together.

His personal mission is to inspire and mentor others (particularly youth) as he helps them to discover and reach their full potential.  Greg currently lives in Costa Rica with his family, where he spends his days reading, mentoring youth, going to the beach and jumping off bridges into tropical swimming holes.

Free Screening of CLASS DISMISSED -  Friday May 29th at 7:00 pm
Frustrated with the traditional school system, a family in L.A. pulls their two children out of school and takes their education into their own hands.  Class Dismissed takes a fresh look at what it means to be educated in the 21st century and explores the rapidly growing movement of parents providing an education outside a classroom setting.
